Hello All,
We have submitted pricing for repairs to a prosthetic knee to the VA.  We have a standard Customary mark up on repairs that are done out of our office by the manufacturer, for all insurances and customers.  We were recently told by the VA to submit for our time under a repair code, and then to submit the manufacturer's invoice, and they will pay that under a parts code.  To my recollection, this is new procedure from VA.  We have had other insurers attempt this and have came to agreeable situations on a one by one basis.
I know this issue comes up for private insurers from time to time, but if this has been posted before for VA, I apologize.
Is this a standard practice across all VA locations?  Our area is operating without contracts right now, so answering that it is different based on contracts isn't helpful, unless you mention what happens in your area along with that.
Any help with what happens at other VA's is helpful.
I will post responses without personally identifiable info, unless asked to include it.
Thank you,
Nathan Keepers, CPOBarnhart Prosthetic and Orthotic Services, Inc.
