Following is a note sent by Mark Kirchner, CPO, and forwarded by me to the list.  The first item regards the state's attempt to have O&P companies obtain medical device manufacturers licenses.

Hello everyone,

Governor Perry signed SB 1271 on May 27, 2009 effective immediately!

I would like to say thanks to all that were a part in this fight!!  It will surprise you how things can get accomplished when people get together to solve a problem. After many phone calls and I don’t remember how many emails this one is over. I hope in the future that when the next one comes around we have even more support.

The only thing left is to pay our responsibility to Hillco for the outstanding job they did for us. We will also need to visit the key players that helped get this through the legislative process for us once the session is over. Our funds are not where we need to be at this time, so if you have not or know of someone who has not supported this cause to date please do so as soon as you can. Thank you again for all the support that you have given me in getting this accomplished for the future of O&P in Texas .

PS: Parity for Prosthetic and Orthotic coverage passed as well and was signed by Governor Perry on May 21, 2009. Please reach out and say thank you to all the amputees and support groups that did this on a shoestring budget on behalf of the patients we treat every day.

Good year for Texas !!!!!!!!
