I am a huge believer in Education. As human beings we must never stop
learning. As Professionals in the Orthotic and Prosthetic field,
ceasing to learn is unfair to the general public, detrimental to the
field and not in the best interest of the individual practicing.
Education is the vehicle by which we will equip future generations to
provide optimal care to patients and education will propel this field
into the highest levels of nano technologies and the latest research
methodologies. We, as O/P professionals, should support our educational
programs and do our level best to educate (there is that word again) the
young people in our community of the opportunities and personal
fulfillment available within the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
Orthotic and Prosthetic professionals, whom are ready for a real
challenge, should consider a career shift into the educational side of
our field. There are many opportunities to make a difference in a
budding professional's life and give back to this field, creating a
lasting legacy. Oklahoma State University, for one example, recently
announced the addition of faculty to its Orthotic and Prosthetic
Technically based multi skill set program (Includes comprehensive
technical education, Orthotic fitter education, and Pedorthic
education). Here is a perfect example of an opportunity to become an O/P
professional educator and ensure that your talents and gifts benefit the
next generation. Ladies and Gentlemen, if we don't care for this field
and patient's futures who will?
