OPAF introduces First at Third Base
The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund, Inc. (OPAF) is proud to announce
their newest venture,
First at Third Base, a fundraising opportunity tied to the distribution of
the documentary feature, This Old Cub, the story of famed Chicago Cubs
Third Baseman, Ron Santo. Ron is the first and only major league baseball
player to play while suffering from diabetes. Ron is now a bilateral below
knee amputee, due to diabetes, and the film covers not only his amazing
career with the Cubs, but also chronicles his second amputation and heroic
rehabilitation as a famed broadcaster and sports personality.
As part of First at Third Base, OPAF will receive half of the proceeds from
the sale of each DVD! Orders can be placed directly with OPAF at
215-752-5756 or <Email Address Redacted> or you may order through the official This
Old Cub website (www.ThisOldCub.com). When placing your order through
ThisOldCub.com, enter the code phrase OPAF in the company field on the
order form and your order will be flagged for the proceeds to be split with
OPAF. This would make a great Christmas present for any baseball fan or
someone looking for inspiration!
Ron Santo was a member of the 1969 Cubs team that came heartbreakingly close
to the World Series, only to have it disappear. His inspiring story of
courage and humor is one that will show everyone a man battling without
bitterness. This film appeals not only to those baseball fans of yesterday
and today, but also serves as an example of perseverance in the face of
obstacles and rehabilitation.
OPAF serves as the official philanthropy of the U.S. Orthotic and Prosthetic
Community and works to raise funds to develop and promote programs and
adaptive sports clinics for those with physical challenges. Our First
Volley adaptive tennis program has reached out to amputees and those with
limb loss and provided an activity that they may have thought lost to them.
Our First Swim clinics invites amputees and orthosis wearers back to the
pool and gives them a greater sense of comfort and safety in and around the
water. Our long association with National Amputee Golf Association's First
Swing program helps us to reach out to our population with adaptive golf
techniques. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, our mission of fundraising is
varied and encompasses many different techniques.
Should you have any questions about OPAF and our programs, please contact
Robin Burton, OPAF Executive Director at 215-752-5756 or check out our
website at www.opfund.org. We thank This Old Cub for joining us in our
mission of Giving Wings to Dreams!R
