This distance education course is for prosthetists, therapists, medical
residents, board exam candidates, or any healthcare professional with an
interest in prosthetics. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center's Prosthetics-Orthotics program has designed these selected
lectures and exercises to be self-paced and flexible to fit into today's
busy schedules. Easily accessed online, the course covers all levels of
amputation and the corresponding prosthetic fitting principles.
Prosthetic theory is presented using a combination of lectures with
images, case simulations, problem-solving scenarios, as well as a
systematic case-based format for developing prescription
recommendations. Among the tools presented are multiple choice
questions, short answer questions and written simulations, all with
immediate feedback to reinforce concepts and to provide self assessment.
View the lectures and assessments as often as you wish for the duration
of the course. An asynchronous discussion board is used to develop your
prescription formulation skills and your ability to rationalize your
recommendations. UT Southwestern faculty will monitor the discussion
board to clarify issues and to answer questions. This course provides a
unique online experience to help you better understand prosthetic
principles and to build your confidence in providing patient care.
Internet access via a DSL line is highly recommended as a minimum to
effectively view the content. Begin the course whenever you wish and
you will receive 30 days of unlimited access for $385. ABC Continuing
Education Credits have been applied for.
