To all practitioners,

Please be advised that on December 03, 2002, the NJ State Board of Examiners
in Prosthetics and Orthotics unanimously approved, by vote, a time extension
for the submission of applications for NJ State Licensure under the
Grandparenting Provision clause. Due to unforeseen administrative delays,
the Board felt that there was insufficient time for potential licensees to
submit their applications for consideration to the Board in a timely manner.

The previous date of December 14, 2002 is now extended to May 12, 2003 for
the submission of your application for licensure.

The official NJ State notification reads, as follows:

The Orthotics and Prosthetics Licensing Act at N.J.S.A. 45-12B-12 provides
in relevant part:

Any person who has practiced, full-time, for three (3) years prior to the
effective date of this amendatory and supplementary act in an established
prosthetic-orthotic facility as an orthotist, prosthetist or
orthotist/prosthetist, may file an application with the Board within 180 days
after the date procedures are established by the Board ...

Notice is hereby given to the regulated community and all interested parties
that application submission procedures were established as of November 13,
2002. Therefore, the deadline to file an application for licensure with the
Board, pursuant to the Grandfathering provision of N.J. A.C. 13:44H3.3, has
been extended to May 12, 2003.

If you wish to receive an application for licensure, please write to or fax
your written request for an application to:

State of New Jersey
Division of Consumer Affairs
Orthotics and Prosthetics Board of Examiners
PO Box 45034
Newark, New Jersey 07101

Fax Number: 973-648-3536

If you now work in NJ and wish to continue to work there, you must apply for
a License. If you work elsewhere, you should consider applying for a NJ State
License in the event that you might relocate and practice in New Jersey.
Also, the college educational requirement is waived during the
Grandparenting period.

Since the NJ State O&P License does not have residency restrictions, a
practitioner in a State without State Licensure might wish to apply for the
NJ License. This would provide that practitioner with State recognition of
his/her credentials as a licensed practitioner in O and/or P, now and in the
future.

On a personal note, my thanks to my dear friends, Ron Gingras, Terry Supan
and Michael Rieth for their kind and supportive words.

Happy Holidays to all.

Warmest regards,

Lou Haberman, LPO/CPO
Chairman, NJ State Board of Examiners in Orthotics and Prosthetics
