As far as the Masters in Lower Extremity Orthotics, when you go to the
University
of Indianapolis' web site for their advance PT degrees
< <URL Redacted>> you will see that one of the
courses is a
three day course on lower limb orthotic not a full masters degree in
orthotics.
Whether the graduate thinks they are a fully educated orthotist is
another
matter. I would put this into the same category as the introduction
courses that
NU, NYU and UT have taught for decades.
As far as programs closing, in reality programs are expanding. when you
go to the
NCOPE web site < <URL Redacted>> you will see three real masters
level
programs in final development stages. There has been a masters program
at U Conn
for years.
There is no question that the school need more support. But that is a
part of
the Academy's Quantum Leap project that President Dibello debuted at the
Annual
Meeting in Dallas last month. How many of you have written your Senator
or
Representative to support the AAOP effort for earmarked education and
outcomes
dollars? It's not to late so go back to the Gorski e-mail of March
16th.
It's not about protecting turf. It's about making sure that people with
physical
disabilities have fully educated and trained professionals providing
services
for/to them.
Lets not be like that teacher. Care about your profession by getting
involved
and getting the facts.
