Dear Reed:
Thought you might be interested in my response to Jan. Education is
the one thing that no one can take away from you ---and that is what the
Academy is all about.
We are not a perfect organization but we are working hard to do as
much as possible with the limited resources we have. This Quantum Leap
initiative is a no loose proposition for the profession and ultimately for
the client. I hope you will give it consideration and support.
Thanks,
Tom DiBello
Dear Jan:
I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that the American
Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists has begun doing just what you suggest.
Last fall with help of the Directors of our University Educational Programs
we began the process of presenting their needs to the appropriate Government
Agency's and to Congress. It is our hope that we can raise around 1.5 million
dollars for our University programs.
Additionally, we are lobbying for funding for a series of consensus
conferences and for the establishment of an applied research fund. This three
phased initiative has been named PROJECT QUANTUM LEAP and more extensive
details can be found on our web page. Nothing of this nature has been
undertaken before by the Academy, but we feel strongly that with the help and
support of our members we can't fail.
In fact the support for the project from the membership has been great.
Both in terms of the Congressional letter writing program that we are in the
midst of (see web site) and in terms of funds donated to defray the costs of
the program.
I would encourage you to look into this program and get involved in
this important educational initiative.
Best Regards,
