Hello Colleagues,
I finally am getting around to posting this summary. I just recently
changed jobs, so I actually have not had the chance to act on any of the
fine suggestions you've presented to me.... but here they are, for your
reference. Benefoot is the only company I had a chance to contact, so I
know they *definitely* do this type of work, but some of the other
companies may be more convenient for some of you out there.
I received a lot of duplicate responses, meaning referring me to the
same companies, so I have not bothered to credit each response with a
practitioner's name. I thought that might just clutter up the
responses. Thanks to ALL of you that did respond! Bill Lifford, C.P.
ORIGINAL POST:
a friend of mine has expressed interest in having custom-made sandals
fabricated that incorporate his orthotics (or have a footbed designed
like his orthotics). Do you know any facilities or companies that do
this type of work? Any contact info would be greatly appreciated.
-----------------
RESPONSES:
1. A company called Centri AB out of Sweden has a new sandal that
could work
for your friend. You can contact Bengt Randstrom <Email Address Redacted>
2. Have you seen Finn Comfort shoes? They come with removable insoles
which
are quite hefty, so when you remove them there is lots of space for
custom
orthotics. The do have some sandals styles which might be suitable for
your
client.
3. Call Next Step Foot care in Houston TX. 713-796-0349.
visit benefoot.com, or call Benefoot at 1-800-554-FOOT.
4. I think you should be able to send casts to any of the custom shoe
factories
( Acor, Tru-fit, etc.) with design instructions for such a sandal.
Those
numbers and addresses are in the AOPA yearbook and any of the monthly
journals.
5. Rizzo Shoe Orthopedics, Miami FL
305-631-0809
6. Langer in Long Island, NY (no contact info)
7. Try footcomfort.com, they sell Bio-Orthopedics sandals and inserts
8. Call AMFIT at 1-800-356-FOOT.
9. Contact Frontier Orthopedics in Cheyenne, WY. Talk to Rick
Jackson.
10. Other companies I was advised to try:
Maier Orthopaedie-Schuhtechnik in Germany, AOL company in Australia,
the PA Shoe Clinic, and FITS.
Hope this is helpful to some of you! Where there is no contact info, it
means that there was no contact information in the respose I received.
