Our evaluation trip to Honduras,Central America this week, October 22 to
the 24 was indeed a productive one.The Barr Foundation team made up of
Juana Rubio, Eddy Fuentes CPO and myself, are coordinating efforts there
with the Rotary Club, San Felipe Hospital, Handicap International
and ECHO (European Community Humanitarian Office).

Once the wish list for components is established, it is planned to air
transport the required components and prosthetic supplies to the Hospital
this month for a pilot program in fitting 12 B/K amputees by December.
Once that pilot program has been established and determined successful,
we will expand the program to therehabilitation of upper extremities
amputees
at San Felipe and penetrate regions of Honduras as well as
other countries of Central America.

Amputees whom have been and continue to be victims of land mines in this
region
of Central America is significant.

The San Felipe Hospital in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, has a newly
and adequately equipped laboratory and three qualified
prosthetists whom have been trained in El Salvador.

Mr. Eddy Fuentes, CPO of Shriners Childrens Hospital in St.Louis,
graciously donated his time for the trip with me for the Barr Foundation.
Eddy has 19 years of experience in the O&P field and is originally from
Guatemala
and speaks Spanish fluently. He worked very well in establishing the local
prosthetists needs and thier confidence in our organizations ability to work
together.

Board member Kim Doolan is presently in Guyana,South America with
additional prosthetic components and securing a final arrangement with the
local
Rotary Club to provide additional oversight and equally share the labor
expense in
the Foundation's expansion of a pilot program completed in June.

Meanwhile domestically UASA remains active in receiving, qualifying and
processing about 30-50 applications per month for domestic funding thru
sponsoring qualified prosthetists.

I am also pleased to announce that at the recent annual meeting of Florida
prosthetsists and orthotists professionals, I was presented, a Honorary
Lifetime
Membership and Advocacy Leadership Award from FAOP, the Florida
Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists.

Anyone that was in attendance can confirm my sincere thanks for this tribute
by the profession.

Best Regards,
