In a recent posting to this listserv, Al Pike said, It has been said that
NovaCare and HOG are the primary financial supporters of AOPA and AAOP. The
two organizations who depend on the national meetings for most of their
additional funding for operation.

To clarify, there are three large (>$15 million revenues) organizational
members of AOPA - NovaCare, HOG and Rehab Designs of America. Together they
account for over 35 percent (575) of the AOPA member facilities (both Active
and Affiliate members). The three companies pay a total of only about 8
percent ($91,000) of AOPA's total dues. It should also be noted that for this
amount they have only 3 votes in elections and other affairs of the
Association. I don't think we could say that they are the primary financial
supporters, nor do they have a controlling interest in voting.

AOPA currently has a Structure Commission that is looking into these and other
membership issues, such as: Shouldn't the Big Three pay a larger percentage
of the total AOPA dues? Shouldn't they also have more votes? We're not
talking control here - we're talking basic value and fairness. Why do we
need AOPA regions (and regional meetings)? Shouldn't AOPA get more active
with States? How can we find ways to get more input from our membership?

The AOPA National Assembly is an important source of revenue for our
association. The Assembly is also an important membership service for both
supplier and provider companies. The Assembly represents about 26 percent of
AOPA's total revenue and about 22 percent of our expenses. About 60 percent
of the revenue comes from exhibitors, and about 40 percent from attendees.
The revenue from events like the National Assembly gives us resources provide
additional member services and helps us keep dues increases below the annual
rise in the cost of living.

If you have any questions about these or any other matter, please contact me
anytime.
