Hello,
I recently had a patient with elephantitis in his bilateral lower extremities. The patient has bilateral ulcers on dorsum aspect of his feet that are about ½ deep and 2’’ in length and width. The patient’s doctor is planning on doing skin grafts to this area. The doctor is looking for a brace/device to keep the calf skin over hang off the dorsum of his feet. The calf area can be pushed away with aggressive force from the dorsum aspect of his feet. Compression has been tried without any success. The patient is ambulatory, has good strength in his ankle and normal range of motion in his ankles. The patient cannot wear shoes. Has anyone created a brace for this type of condition or does anyone have ideas on how to offload the dorsum without limiting ankle motion/function?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
