If you have a patient that is an amputee on one side and the sound side needs a custom shoe, do you bill A5501 for both sides? According to a senior analyst at CGS, If the beneficiary is diabetic and meets the coverage requirements for the A5501 Medicare will consider coverage of a pair of shoes. We also contacted AOPA, but were told that it would not be paid for because there is no deformity on the prosthetic side. How are you billing and have you gotten paid from Medicare?
I appreciate your responses.
