Dear O and P List Service Community!
I want to thank each of your for your participation in my surveys over the years. This is a summary of surveys you all have taken:
Leadership Styles in O & P- 2011
Educational Style Preferences- 2012
How Prosthetists choose Prosthetic Feet- 2012
Differences between Upper Limb Practitioner Groups- 2014
Upper Limb Acceptance Rates- 2015
Innovation Adoption and Group Anxiety-2016
Transfemoral Recommendation- 2018
Clinical Population Needs- 2019
Clinical Burnout and Anxiety- 2021
I thought it would be interesting to send to you a summary and themes of all of the surveys when considering them together.
1) Specialists and Experts worry more about adapting and modifying technology, than learning the technology itself.
2) A majority of clinicians choose from a very small number of componentry choices.
3) Clinicians show a consistent clinical confidence and “optimism bias”, unless checked in a cross-disciplinary team, comparable outcome data, or clinical evaluation checklist.
4) Anxiety and Burnout is highest for those with 11-15 years of experience; but sharply increasing among 0-5 years.
5) There has not been a large increase in patients seen per day, but a sharp increase in documentation for those patients as well as the use of support personnel.
6) Clinicians have the highest sense of anxiety with reimbursement and professional encroachment, for which they often seek support.
7) A majority of clinicians are now CPO’s at 68%, but may feel overwhelmed by the variety of technology the are asked to provide.
Admittedly I am probably not telling you anything new and there are a number of other factors, but I thought this may be helpful to you! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Best regards,
Gerry Stark
