Dear OANDP-L,
I'm currently working with a 74-year-old male living with a right
mid-level transradial amputation and brachial plexus injury. He is able
to protract his right shoulder, though cannot actively abduct or flex
his shoulder joint. He is able to actively flex his elbow however, elbow
ROM is limited to 40-135 degrees.
We have fabricated a body-powered transradial prosthesis with a modified
saddle harness for ease of donning and doffing, however, it is limited
in its application due to the restricted active control of the shoulder.
Our next aim is to support shoulder movement, ideally with a locking
shoulder joint that allows flexion and abduction to improve application
of the prosthesis. I understand the Stanmore Flail Arm Orthosis from RSL
Steeper is no longer available, however, I was interested if anyone has
managed a similar case and how it was managed. Does anyone still have
access to a Stanmore Flail Arm Orthosis?
