To those that may be interested an available, and to others all the best:
Under “normal” circumstances, I hold an annual clinic in my community for students to meet and interact with individuals with limb loss/difference, but this year nothing is normal. Our experience has been tremendous, because how else can a student physical therapist learn about prostheses, residual limb size/shape, or the day to day activities of another without interaction? I hope you can help make this year a little better by spreading this opportunity for everyone’s gain (even yours).
There are two opportunities that I hope you will consider, one for you and one for your community of individuals with limb difference:
1. Perhaps you’d like to learn more about what physical therapy students are learning, their perspectives, or maybe you are simply eager to share your “clinical pearls.” We could all benefit from 30-60 minutes of your time, by signing up for one of the following dates: 9/21, 9/23, 9/25 and/or 10/12, 10/14, and 10/16 (MWF) between 3 and 4 PM PST with a small group of students each time. Students would like to meet with a wider variety of clinicians that work with folks that have limb difference - so I'm asking for your help to support my students. Attached is a link to the survey to sign up, within is as a short video that a local TV producer made to support the larger clinic that will happen immediately before your time with students - super cool! Requirements: computer/webcam/phone
This can really apply to all clinical services, and support, certainly not limited only to prosthetists so you may be on a panel with an inter professional group - we will all be learning for sure.

2. The second opportunity is directly for individuals with limb difference. They can sign up for one hour Telehealth sessions with a student, at either 1 or 2PM PST, over six days.
Free PT telehealth clinic for people with limb difference. Make yourself available for as many 1-hour sessions as you like: 9/21, 23, 25 and 10/12, 14, 16 at either/both 1 or 2PM PST. Requirements: computer/webcam/phone

Important to note that students will not be providing direct interventions, and you are certainly welcome to come on the call and listen in as a shadow to the call with your patient. The student would very likely ask for your help and input, but they may also want to be brave and be more independent and speak with you after they have had a chance to initiate their subjective evaluation. I have attached a copy of their form for their subjective evaluation, that they need to turn in and discuss as a class, to reassure you that the students are not going to be providing interventions. Their assignment AFTER the call, is to come up with short and long term goals and we will discuss them as a class without advising your clients/patients.
Also, these are 3rd year students “nearly fully cooked” having just returned from 12 weeks of rotation, and only completing this term before heading back out for clinic - they are very good.
As for security, I have a HIPAA zoom account, and all will either pre-register or be using Duo secure to sign in on each call. Without pre-registering, you will not be allowed on the call for security purposes. I am also using Adobe Docusign, which was approved by our lawyers, to gather safety information should anything happen while on the call and we need to call emergency services for the individual.
Lastly, I’m hopeful that we can interact with individuals from around the world. There is no reason we can’t learn from you, if you’re able to make the time and have the necessary requirements (computer/webcam/phone).
Thank you in advance, and please let me know what questions you may have: <Email Address Redacted> <mailto:<Email Address Redacted>>
