To all Colleagues and Friends,

I just want to comment briefly on the recent post sent by my Colleague David Krupa, CP Executive Director of the Range of Motion Project, organization that has a full time O and P Lab in Guatemala and how their activities impact our O and P private practice here.
While I am sure many persons with O and P needs have been served honestly and with good intentions there are also many patients with resources to pay at least for basic devices that we as a private business can provide to them but many of them are driven away and choose places that provide free prostheses and braces, can you compete with that? I have no doubt that this organization as well as many others are making efforts to serve the underserve as well as those that do not receive any services at all and I wish I could partner with them, only in one occasion since I moved back from the USA in 2004 one organization approached us and we still are working closely with them in helping to reach their goals and objectives here as a US Humanitarian Organization.
This is not about the Range of Motion Project there are other groups that come some once a year, others decide to stay. I want to let you know that while I support any humanitarian mission as I have done most of my professional life I am also trying to protect my business and most importantly I am also trying to serve the people here in Guatemala but I can’t do it for free, when you provide humanitarian services and received monetary donations directly or indirectly from the patients we see it as an informal business and become direct or indirect competitors.
If you are coming to Guatemala to provide free O and P Services please get in touch with us perhaps we can find a way to partner, perhaps we can assist and collaborate with you.
Please follow the link and read an article written years ago if you are interested in this matter.

Subject: [OANDP-L] Range Of Mortion Project Seeks Volunteer Prosthetists for October Clinic in Guatemala

Paul,

Can you please review this content for posting to the O-AND-P Listserv?

*The Range of Motion Project (ROMP) is searching for volunteer prosthetists for its 13-22 October Clinic in Guatemala:ROMP is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality prosthetic and orthotic care to people in Guatemala, Ecuador, and the US. Our flagship clinic is located in Guatemala, where we have had an estimated 6,000 patient visits in the past
12 years. In addition to our permanent, local staff, we regularly operate clinical missions in which we bring O&P practitioners, student, and faculty for 10 day periods to our sites in Guatemala and Ecuador to work alongside our local practitioners. * *Enrollment is currently open to volunteer practitioners, students, and faculty of O&P, PT, and OT for the October clinic in Guatemala. This clinic will play a key roll in treating patients with amputation on the ROMP waitlist in Guatemala, and is an outstanding opportunity to serve some of the most vulnerable people in the Western Hemisphere. Please enroll VIA THIS LINK < <URL Redacted>>
as soon as possible as this program is quickly filling up.
