O&P Listserve
As the We the People petition surpasses the 100K signatures needed for the White House administration to take a look at the issue, the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America would like to send a big Thank You to all the O&P organizations that helped spread the word and apply their resources to gain the attention needed to garner the signatures required. This feat, which was accomplished in just a few days' time shows the power of social media. On just two OPGA Facebook posts alone, over 130K people were reached, over 3,000 likes, and over 700 shares of our post were made, along with numerous comments. The money spent was well worth the much needed attention that social media brings to the O&P profession and amputee care around the United States.
The signed petition does not mean change will occur or the end of this process, rather just the beginning. While the petition does say that Presidential administration will consider the issue, don't expect that to change anything. We need everyone to contact their Senators and Congressional representatives to show them the value of quality prosthetic care and ask them to rescind the Medicare proposal which limits coverage for lower limb prosthetics. O&P organizations have tools to help you locate your representatives' contact information and send letters to them. OPGA and others are ready and willing to help, just reach out to them.
It's time to engage yourselves, your patients, and everyone you know like never before. It's time to show the CMS that they cannot commoditize our profession like they are trying so hard to do. We don't simply supply people with legs, we manage their health to help improve function and quality of life.
