I have a patient (60s, highly active, motivated & independent) with
bilateral lower extremity weakness due to spinal cord impingement
(fell & injured his back). Patient lacks sufficient quad strength to
make unaided stance reliable and would benefit from BL stance control
KAFOs. However, patient is a heavy guy (not obese, but stocky) and I
am concerned that bilateral double upright devices would hinder gait
more than help. Single upright seems to be the way forward, but I
haven't been able to find a unilateral system rated for more than 225
lbs. Does anyone have any design options that may work for him? Self
reported weight is 250 lbs. Thanks for the input:)
