We currently have a situation where our patient, diagnosed with MS, has a power mobility chair and is in need of new AFO's. The plot thickens, her physician documented:

- Written new Rx for new power mobility chair

- Has spastic paraparesis and weakness in walking.

- Patient wants to be more active.
We find this conflicting because AFO's can be used in non-ambulatory situations if there are contractures, spastic paraparesis, etc. However, the physician documents that the patient wants to be more active/ambulatory.
Will this throw a red flag when billing Medicare? Anyone have any similar issues or the text from Medicare that states what to do in this situation. Our searches have been unsuccessful.

Any help or documentation would be a big help.
Thanks,
