Hi all.

I'm looking for help designing knee orthoses for a b/l non ambulatory
patient. Patient demonstrates b/l hip adduction with knee flexion
contracture. She can be passively ranged at the hip to full ROM and the
knees to approx 80'. I would have no trouble putting custom knee orthoses
with double upright and step lock style joints if it weren't for her hip
involvement. The PT wants to avoid an abduction bar or Scottish rite style
HO. They have issues with the patient removing any pillows or soft knee
separator.

So. I'm looking to utilize a single upright on the lateral side with a step
lock style joint to gradually decrease her loss of range. The torque
involved in this setup is a concern for me. I know there used to be
available a kit for fabricating knee orthoses in house. Not sure step lock
ever was an option for this style of kit. They were more meant for your
standard adjustable motion derotation brace. The uprights in these kits
were made out of steel that were curved to better allow for an open trim
design and also better distribute the forces involved.

Does anyone know

1)if these kits are still available and if they have a step lock style joint
as an option and 2) of a better design to handle to torque involved minimize
medial bulk and allow for single upright design?

Thanks for any input.
