I am trying to find a temporary solution for a male with CMT. I want to get an off the shelf AFO used or new, donated that will fit a male who's foot is 10 1/2 long, size 9 1/2 shoes and should go up his calf about 15 1/2. The AFO needs to have a medial upright to allow strapping to pull his foot out of the varus position until he can raise the funds to purchase a Double Helix AFO, which will solve his problem.
We looked into the insurance policies in California hoping that he could receive some funds, but all of the Obamacare policies, even those that are called PPOs have written in the policies that unless you receive the services from in in-network provider, they will not pay for any orthoses. If the provider is in-network, then they will pay 70%.
If you have a brace they you can send, contact me for my address. I will use Velcro and padding to hold his ankle over, so he can function until he is able to proceed.
Thank you in advance.
