Thank you to the 95 participants in the survey for Prosthetists
regarding design
of products in our industry for a senior design project. The results for
part 2 were as followed.

3) Please rank in order the areas that your patients report transtibial
socket discomfort from most common to least common

a) Fibular head- #1- 17.89%, #2- 44.21%, #3- 26.32%, #4- 7.37%, #5- 3.16%,
#6- 1.05%. Average Ranking for fibular head- 4.63

b) Distal Tibia- #1- 69.15%, #2- 21.28%, #3- 8.51%, #4- 0.00%, #5- 1.06%,
#6- 0.00%.

Average Ranking for Distal Tibia- 5.57

c) Tibial Tubercle- #1- 1.05%, #2- 1.05%, #3- 13.68%, #4- 22.11%, #5-
31.58%- #6- 30.53%. Average Ranking for Tibial Tubercle- 2.26

d) Medial Condyle- #1- 1.05%, #2- 3.16%, #3- 25.26%, #4- 28.42%, #5-
23.16%. #6- 18.95%. Average Ranking for Medial Condyle- 2.74

e) Anterior Tibia- #1- 1.58%, #2- 28.42%, #3- 15.79%, #4- 21.05%, #5-
15.79%, #6- 7.37%.

Average Ranking for Anterior Tibia- 3.77

f) Distal Fibula- #1- 0.00%, #2- 2.11%, #3- 10.53%, #4- 21.05%, #5- 25.26%,
#6- 41.05%

Average Ranking for Distal Fibula- 2.07

4) If a transtibial interface could reduce the amount of socket
replacements, and/ or adjustments needed to keep the patient comfortable
and mobile, the price should be

a) $300-$400- 23.16%

b) $400-$500- 12.63%

c) $500-$600- 11.58%

d) More than $600- 23.16%

e) Other (please specify)- 29.47%

If Other was chosen, the respondent was asked for additional comments. The
responses were as follows:

- Only a free market can answer this. All else is speculation.

- not sure

- reduce is non-specific, significant reduction would be worth $600

- cost or billing price?

- Cheap, we are getting killed on reimbursement as it is. But won't R&D,
fabrication costs, profit margin etc. determine this

- The cost wouldn't matter, as long as we can get paid (and hopefully make
a profit) for the magic interface.

- It would depend on recieving a code. VASS versus pin/lock

- the price to whom?

- no cporrelation

- if it doesn't require frequent replacing or if it is intrinsic to the
socket it will probably be more expensive (500-2000). However, if it is
easily replacable or requires multiples, it will be less expensive
(50-500). The cost of the item should be relative to its form, function and
manufacturing expense.; ideally, the interface will be simple to use and
cost effective for both patient AND prosthetist!

- covered by medicare. (about $400-500)

- this is not in my scope practice

- whatever is needed

- no opinion

- Lower than 300 - 400

- Interfaces already cost much more than these sums

- What price? Material, fab,Medicare fee?

- improper way to price

- $200-300

- Depends how long it takes to make it and the material costs

- < $200

- undeterminable

- N/A

- Appopriate to the fabrication costs and labor to fit it.

- determined per the cost of material and fabrication

- The actual cost of the material

- check Otto Bock PUR liner/already has build ups
