Sorry for the delay in response. I would like to thank everyone who responded with advice on the KAFO question I posted last month regarding the hyperextention/recurvatum case. As of right now, there is not much I can do until she decides to come into the office. We adjusted the brace she came into us with as best we could and have to see if we can get new coverage for another KAFO. The consensus was trying a p[osterior opening cuff, which I would consider if making a new KAFO from scratch. I haven't done that in a while so, I didn't initially look in that direction, so I thank everyone for the reminder. I would reduce her recurvatum by about half to reduce some of the issues she had but keep an adjustable ankle to capture correction as they continue to stretch her and obtain positive results.
I may also try a sample KAFO from ALLARD, just to see if she can tolerate/don the device independently, which I feel she should be able to do. Thanks again for everyone that responded, even to some of my old colleagues who called to bust my chops. Hahaha! :)
