Dear Colleagues and Guests,
Thanks for the many replies regarding the knee joint photo. Most believe
it is an old Pope component and a few think it was USMC. I had forgotten
that USMC purchased Pope Brace and of course they might have sold it as
well. Fillauer likely had a similar joint as well somewhere along the
way. It appears that Becker Orthopedic still has a locking hip joint
that might work for the practitioner who is taking care of this patient.
Evidently, the joint was being used as a hip joint, which was not
uncommon back in the day. I still marvel at those good-ole days without
CNC and CAD backing us up. Things seemed a lot more fun back when we
used blackened fish oil for a protective film on cold rolled steel
sidebars and forged our own drop locks for HD hip joint systems.
