‘Phoenix Rising for Haiti’ is currently looking for highly skilled, motivated P&O clinicians and technicians to join their experienced team of rehabilitation specialists in Port-de-Paix, Haiti.
Founded in 2010, Phoenix Rising for Haiti is a non-profit organization specializing in the provision of rehabilitation care in one of the poorest regions of Haiti. The multidisciplinary team restores functional mobility by providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of orthopedic conditions including prosthetics, orthotics, physical therapy, fracture casting and wound care services. PRH are looking for Certified P&O’s Practitioners and Technicians with a desire to work within a team and share their skills. This exciting opportunity will offer the chance to:

What does the role involve?
As a qualified Prosthetist or Orthotist or practicing Technician, working for PRH your training and skills will be utilized to the full. You will be required to perform clinical assessments, complete the clinical and technical skills necessary to cast, measure, manufacture and fit prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Your expertise in training will also be called upon to support local staff in the development of their skills.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
§ Understanding of and commitment to PRH’s philosophy
§ Demonstrate knowledge of PRH’s work in Haiti
§ Significant experience in supervising, training and managing others
§ Demonstrate ability to work well as a part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
§ Ability to organize, prioritize workload and use initiative
§ Relevant international travel experience or work experience in indigenous/remote communities
§ Ability to cope with stress and ability to work in demanding environments
§ Interest and/or experience in international humanitarian issues, international relations, anthropology
§ Previous field experience in a similar role with a non-government organization
§ Clinical education and training experience
§ Minimum 3 years work experience is desirable (post-qualification)
§ Flexibility and a sense of humor
When?
Historically, PRH make two trips a year to Haiti. Our next trip is in October 2013 and we expect, as a comprehensive team, to see perhaps upward of 500 patients.
We are currently taking applications for volunteers to join our trip in October for one week. If you are interested in finding out more about joining the PRH team in October or in the future, please contact us.
