Dear List,
While it is relatively easy to determine patient's current functional level
K-0 through K-3 following and addressing the specific items in the
description of the MFCLs, such as ability to transfer, negotiate
environmental barriers, ambulation with variable cadence, it is not as
straightforward to interpret the description of K-4 level:
Patient has the ability or potential for prosthetic ambulation that exceeds
basic ambulation skills, exhibiting high impact, stress or energy levels –
typical of the prosthetic demands of a child, active adult or athlete.
Could I ask the members of the List to give their interpretation? What is
implied under exceeding basic ambulation skills? Is it running and
participation in active sports? It will certainly be applicable to an
athlete; the situation with a child is clear; however, the description
also says active adult. What should an active adult be able to do to
qualify for a K-4 level?
Thank you. Stephan.
