Hello List,
I wanted to take a minute to thank all those who made componentry donations
to our prosthetic project in Nigeria in partnership with Voice of the
Christian Martyrs. We were able to set up a lab and fabricate and fit 17
Prosthesis to victims of terrorism in Northern Nigeria, most of them
transfemoral amputees. They are all doing well, according to local
contacts. If you would like to see pictures, please Facebook me.
We were able to begin training six local young men and women who are very
interested in learning more about prosthetic and orthotic care and begining
to develop prosthetic care in Nigeria. We will be returning this May to
continue the training and fit as many more prosthetics to new victims as
they are pouring in, as well as follow up with the previous patients.
I am asking for donations again, we especially need 24-26 cm feet of any
kind, endo-skeletal, and cosmetic covers, as well as any old sockets which
can be broken down for the attachments.
More importantly, we need upper extremity equipment for two trans-humeral
and three trans-radial amputees, agian, old sockets can be broken down for
the attachments.
Our goal with this trip is to try to begin to fabricate with only materials
found in Nigeria, with the exception of metal components, which make
training easier at this moment. In future trips, we plan to begin building
the knees and feet in country as well.
Please let me know if you would like to send us any donations,
Michael Arnette
