Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I was looking using the wrong search
terms. Also thanks to Laura Katzenberger about the material from TRS, I
will give that a look.
The width of the strap was surprising to us as he had his prosthesis made
quite some time ago and he seems to get along with the size just fine, in
fact he was pretty adamant that it be made exactly as it is.
Responses below:
SPS does carry it. Just call and ask about it. I seen my colleague order
one not to long ago. I am a orthotist or I would give you more information.
You should consider swapping him out of the plastic tube and check out
TRS' neo axilla material. It is much more comfortable than the
plastic tubing...
If you don't want to try something new... I bet Hosmer sells what you
are looking for.
Fillauer makes axilla plastic that should work.
Although I have not used it for this specific purpose, there is an
FDA-compliant clear vinyl tubing available from McMaster Carr that in the
20mm size should be just large enough for a 1-1/2 Dacron strap if the
tubing were flattened. It comes round, but can be flattened with the
careful application of heat. It can be had both flexible and soft. The
only obvious possible problems are that the wall thickness is a bit stout
for your application (1/8) and that even in the soft and flexible
formulation it is still distinctly firmer than the P&O standard 1 axilla
loop covers made by Hosmer. I have never heard of someone using that wide
a strap for a UE prosthesis, as it would tend to roll in the axilla, but if
that is what works for him, then so be it.
Try hosmer.
The tubing is called Dacron Tape Cover and can be ordered through Cascade
or Hosmer. Cascade stock number is DTC-150-25. A problem for you may be
that it is necessary to order a 25 foot roll. Cost is around $62.00 for a
roll.
SPS has them listed under Dacron Tape Covers (Flat - clear) product #
71794/5 gets you a 5 ft pkg. for 1.5 inch for smaller sized you can find it
under the heading Axilla Loop Pads.
