Join the most influential, concerned and caring members of our profession on April 17-18 in Washington DC for the 2012 Policy Forum. You can make a difference in the future of Patient Care, O&P Payments and the 2012 Elections.
As Health Care Reform regulations continue to be developed, it is critical that the orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthic profession ensure its voice is heard. The government is dealing with a budget deficit and is looking for ways to make cuts so it is more important than ever to educate Members of Congress on how orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics restores lives and are an essential part of the healthcare system. Legislators need to understand how continuing coverage of these benefits for your patients pays off in the long term. Only you and your patients can carry that message.
As a participant in the Policy Forum you will be provided with the necessary materials, background and guidance to make your trip to Capitol Hill exciting and productive. In addition to on-the-spot training on AOPA's federal policy objectives, there will be briefings and training on current issues and the O&P Medicare Improvements Act (H.R. 1958 and S. 2125, the recently introduced Senate version of the Bill), Health Care Reform, the Insurance Fairness for Amputees Act (S. 733) and critical state O&P issues, such as licensure and Medicaid issues. You will be well prepared as you meet with Members of Congress and their staff.
AOPA's lobbying team will schedule your appointments and be on hand to accompany attendees on appointments as needed. During last years' Policy Forum 413 meetings were held with members of Congress and their staff, almost double the 232 appointments of the previous year. These face-to-face meetings put AOPA members in touch with more than three-quarters of the legislators. Help make 2012 a banner year for O&P advocacy.
The Policy Forum begins at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17 and concludes on Wednesday, April 18 after Congressional Appointments (no later than 5:00 PM).
