Hi,
I am the President and Founder of Passing Hope, a non-profit that uses
soccer to help those both economically and physically challenged. I am
working in Haiti working with amputees, utilizing amputee soccer. It is a
great sport that enables both arm and leg amputees to play the sport that
they love. I helped select the first Haitian National Amputee Soccer Team
in August 2010 and was part of the delegation that took them to participate
in the World Cup. I just returned from Haiti last week and held another
practice with the team and am working on building the sport in other areas
of the country.
The game is played without prosthetics and utilizes crutches (preferably
forearm) and unfortunately the team is lacking. When we held practice last
week, some players shared a pair of crutches, because there weren't enough
to go around. We are in dire need of them for the team and to create
additional teams. Does anyone either have the ability to donate crutches
for our program, or can connect me to those who might. Basically since we
are building the sport, we would welcome all the crutches that could be
donated. As stated earlier, forearm crutches are prefered, but not
required, however, we cannot use wood crutches, they would have to be
metal. Please send any questions you might have and please visit our site
at www.passinghope.org for more information!
Thanks,
Chris
