Dear Colleagues,

Over the years we have been able to utilize a variety of codes which allowed
us to manufacture complicated AFO systems. However, we have seen and felt
the impact of deleted L-codes.

In our practice for many years we have combined plastic technology (not
lamination) (L 1970) with the use of double uprights typically used with
bi-channel ankle joints. We had used the code L2770 but this code is no
longer active.Other add on codes are used appropriately for each case.

This design has been used with very good success when the short metal
adjustable ROM thermo-molded joints would not resist torque adequately with
variations of patients crouch gait patterns with significant pes planus and
mild genu valgum.

Does anyone have recommendations on coding out for articulating plastic
AFO's when combined with conventional double uprights with ankle joints? Or
the use of 2 base codes L1970 and L1990 with add on's.

Thanks for your help.
