I have a 2 ½ year old male client who has a congenital very short below elbow segment. I have been treating him as an above elbow due to this very short segment. He started with a crawling prosthesis and now a simple passive device with a TRS L'll infant hand which has an articulating thumb to hold objects/toys. He also has a fixed flexed exoskeletal elbow.

His parents are very interested in providing him a myoelectric prosthesis. I have not made one for this young of a child and have the following questions if this is approved:

1) Would a single site be more appropriate than a dual site? I could see a single site with the 'cookie crusher' circuit or similar mode (EVO Otto Bock). Maybe a child this age could learn dual site control.

2) I have his elbow fixed at this time and wonder what a good age is to introduce an elbow joint for a very long A/E?

3) Is there a friction elbow out there small enough for a 2 ½ year old? His circumference is 14 centimeters or about 1 ¾ inch diameter. I don't envision having outside joints on him at this age.

Any ideas are much appreciated. I will share the results with the list.

Regards,
