Hi All,

I would like to thank my friends and colleagues for the helpful and
excellent responses to my question about the problem of Proflex sockets that
elongate with use. I got many responses.

I will summarize the results.

1. Many people had the same experience but only when the patients use
skin crème in the prosthesis, especially petroleum based.

2. Some people recommended using thicker material or at least making
the proximal brim thicker.

3. Three people said they have never seen such a problem.

4. One person said it only happens if it is Proflex with silicon.

5. One recommended trying Seaflex

6. One recommended using Otto Bock plastic.

As it turns out, our patients who had this problem of socket elongation were
indeed lotion users. We changed both to Seaflex which solved the problem,
though it is much more expensive. I think we will make a policy of using
Seaflex on lotion-users and continue with Proflex on those that pull in.

Using thicker material may help with other problems but for us, it did not
seem to be related to the problem of elongation.

Thanks again
