Good afternoon to all,
Thank you for your responses on the plea for assistance with setting up an P and O lab in Port Au Prince, the money has been acquired and the equipment is in route, minus the oven, which should be arriving shortly. We are now looking to create a self sustaining center of excellence in Port Au Prince for providing life changing artificial limbs to over 5,000 amputations completed since the devastating earthquake. We will take a team and partnership approach to meeting the amputee's needs. We will provide surgical reconstruction, prosthetic fabrication and fitting, as well as education and rehab services. The team will consist of: 1. Orthopedic and plastic surgeons (1-2/month) to do revision and wound care 2. Prosthetists (1-2/week) to measure, fit and teach 3. Prosthetic techs (2-4/week) to fabricate the limbs and teach and 4. Rehab personnel (4-5/week) to education and retrain the patients to walk or use arms, this will also include an
outreach program.
Partners in this project include: Mission of Hope, Hill Country Bible Church, and Haitian Government with possible involvement of the Red Cross. We could possibly impact up to 1680 patients in 6 months!!
I am attaching a Mission Packet for your review, please contact me with further questions or interest! And if you are not personally interested in volunteering, no problem, just please pass the information along to your friends, colleague's, and other healthcare professionals who may have an interest or the availability to help out!! Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this and from on-hand experience, I can personally say that this was a life altering experience that I will never forget!! Come join us!!
