Dear List,
I received a call from a new patient, who is interested in trying a
new set of prostheses. I have not yet seen the patient in person, but
gathered a bit of information on the phone. Patient is a 27yo male, B/
L Hip Disartic, secondary to trauma. The accident was 5 years ago,
and has been pretty much wheelchair-bound since that point. He has
been fit with a couple different sets of prostheses, which he was not
able to function with, and he described as disastrous. His mother
is pushing him to try again, and he is willing, though very hesitant.
I have seen unilateral hip disartic patients, but never a B/L. Does
anybody have any experience fitting one? Any advice on socket design,
componentry, casting, etc?
Thanks in advance!
