Here is a late response to your inquiry.
I have used and made the Scultitus type abdominal binder.
THEY ARE INVALUABLE FOR PATIENTS WHO HAVE SUFFERED DEHISCENCE OF ABDOMINAL SUTURE. Often the patient cannot undergo another surgery. Many times the patient is very large. The sub cutaneous tissues are weak or failed and this is one of the few methods left to hold things together until the patient can recover to undergo restorative surgery to the failed surgical wound.
Think in terms of an abdominal binder with a pair of vertical hook straps sewn up the back. First fit the binder. Then take a series (4 - 6 - 8) of circumferential velcro pile straps (1.5 to 2 wide) around the abdomen based from the vertical hook straps around the girth and back to those vertical hook straps. Any type of pad over the wound and under the binder and underneath those velcro straps will do to securely replace abdominal tension to the wound site and the organs beneath. Imagine what it is like to cough with no abs. These are universally adjustable and can be applied to put pressure just where needed. Don't forget, nursing must be informed how it all works. They are the primary day to day care givers.

As far as I can tell, internet research shows this to be a very old style binder with multiple straps for abdominal support, originally used for post mastectomy support.
