Got a few replies, for the list this gentleman is 32yo lost his leg secondary to cancer. My initial concern was the trim line of a silicone type liner. His dermatologist says give it a try. His skin is pretty bad with 3 open areas on the residual limb right now. Sounds like silicone is the way to go with a wavy trim line. I don't know the subtype etc yet but I am close to his dermatologist and he is advising as far as the disease. Below are the replies. Thanks

Yes, I fit a lady w/this issue about 4yrs ago. I used an Ossur TF locking liner & she has not had an issue with it. In fact, the skin on her residual limb seems healthier than the rest of her limbs (which are more affected by the disorder than her trunk)

Yes, I worked with a gentleman several years ago with this diagnosis. I
believe that his history prior to his amputation was a squamous cell cancer,
associated with the underlying diagnosis. He went on to BKA. As you know,
this is a devastating disease. Characterized by fragile skin, adherent,
blistering, etc involving many organs. I managed him with an elastomeric
gel liner, that he actually did reasonably well with. Unfortunately, as the
disease is progressive, it involved his other extremities and he became
understandably very depressed. We did what we could for as long as we
could. This probably doesn't help very much. Good luck.

That sounds like a huge challenge. I have not experienced it but there is an article on Medlines's PubMed about a transtibial pt that was successfully fit so you may want to do a search of it on PubMed. Good Luck!

Paul, will be very interested in knowing if you get any response to your questions as this is a very rare disease. My granddaughter has the disease and we have issues with shoes and clothing. I can't imagine how a person with EB will tolerate a prosthesis but am very interested in knowing the outcome. Is this a child or an adult? You can't use suction due to increasing trauma. My prosthetist was wondering what the skin condition is at this time of the residual limb, waist and shoulders. Do you know what type of EB the patient has such as junctional, simplex or dystrophic and what sub type. All of these things are going to make a difference on how you can fit the patient.
