Patient:
For many years our patient has used a bilateral trans-radial body powered prosthesis. He uses heavy duty cables. Patient wants what he has always had and doesn't want to switch to another system (i.e. Standard Cable with lined housing, Otto Bock cables, Spectra Line etc.)
The Problem:
When a new HD cable and housing is used, we are having a rapid build up of friction as the patient opens the TD 15 times in a row. With repetition, the friction increases, making it too difficult to operate, also a grating sound occurs as well as heat. This is not a problem with the line of pull. The cable and housing were both Fillauer.
Question:
Has anyone also experienced this recently?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank you,
Mike Suchoski CO /Prosthetic Resident
