Hi, I was directed to your organization when inquiring if there is any
use for used ankle-foot-othoses (AFOs). I am a physiotherapy student
in Canada doing my clinical practice in a school for special needs
children. A parent of one of the children I work with was wondering
if there was anyone who could make use of her daughter's old AFOs. I
thought that this could turn out into a great project to try and
arrange a colllection of used orthoses throughout the school (there
are many students who have orthotics) and get them to people who could
benefit from them. I have contacted several organizations who work in
developing countries, and have been told that because they are custom
made, they probably can't be modified for a new patient. However, it
was suggested that perhaps some organizations could reuse the
components (straps, joints, etc). So my question is can anyone make
use of the AFOs and/or the components who would be willing to work
with me and the school to arrange getting these used AFOs to someone
who could benefit from them? Any information, help, or advice is also
greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely
