I spoke with AOPA on this issue last week. Apparently, when the new knee
brace policy came into effect several additional codes were not only deemed
not payable under knee brace base codes, but they accidentally included AFO
base codes as well. I was told to simply do a telephone or fax reopening as
this is an issue that everyone is aware of at the moment. I’ve done the fax
reopening, but won’t know the resolution for a while to come. This does not
apply to L2770, which had simply been deemed not payable. Period. Ever. AOPA
is currently lobbying to get that changed. By the way, none of this is
listed on the Medicare site nor on any update I’ve received from Medicare.

Hello everyone,
I am in region D Medicare. As of today, I have a blanket denial of every
single L2275 and L2820 codes for AFOs. Not medically necessary.
Any ideas what's going on? So far, I had 8 of those denied just like this.
Thanks in advance
