Dear List,
The Scenario:
Traditionally, our company has required purchase orders for any and all services rendered in the hospital, regardless of insurance coverage (we bill the hospital and the hospital bills the patient). Recently, a new hospital asked us why we couldn't bill private insurace and medicaid patients directly (they understand that medicare patients must be billed thru the hospital).
The question:
1. Does anyone have any experience with billing a patient's insurance directly when the patient is seen while in the hospital? If so, what has your experience been? Do you get paid? Any advice?
Thanks for your time,
