Hello all: I'm doing an informal survey regarding orthotic/prosthetic patients in rural areas of America compared to urban areas. This has to do with information that I am gathering on health care in rural areas and how it relates to us as O and P practitioners. These are the questions that I'm interested in:
1. Are you seeing more deformites, severe injuries, etc than the cities?
2. Do you have an easier or a tougher time getting hospitals and SNFs to authorize purchase orders for their Medicare Part A patients? Do these hospitals and SNFs have tight budgets for purchases compared to urban?
3. How are rural patients different from urban patients in their attitudes toward wearing an orthoses or prostheses.
4. How is the preventive health care different?
5. Is there a difference in the medical knowledge of your rural patients compared to urban patients?

I have worked in the Fort Lauderdale area, and am now in the Treasure Coast area and Okeechobee, Fl. I see a difference in both these areas and wonder if others see what I see too. Thank you for your time.
