ORIGINAL POST
Hi List members,
I received the following message via E mail:
I have a daughter who was born with a short arm (no right hand) and was
looking into college scholarships designed to help amputees. I was
wondering if you know of any? Any information will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Do you have any leads I could offer her?
Thanks,

RESPONSES
I think that the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
(probably through REPOC at Northwestern) offers a
Summer research internship with persons with
disabilities. I had a classmate at Northwestern Univ.
who participated in that program after completing her
Orthotics schooling, but prior to her residency.
She may also want to contact CAF and OPAF to see if
they offer any scholarships. I don't know whether or
not they do offer any.
sometimes voc rehab will pay for people to go to school. I've heard of
instances where they are willing and eager to give money because it
allows them to keep or increase their budget for the following years.
I'd check into it.
The lady might receive good info from the subscribers to I-CAN.
The listserv was established years ago by Bill Baughn (RIP) for the
parents of congential amputees. The subscribers would know about
scholarships. < <URL Redacted>>

I may be way off, but I thought I read somewhere that the Barr
Foundation ( <URL Redacted> ) funded
or facilitated scholarships. A quick search online found nothing about
that, but it may be worth looking into.
We have a limited amount of scholarship funds and sponsor an A.A.S.
Degree for the O&P Technician. If I can help, please call me at
918/293-5338.
Every academic should view this video.

Assuming this young lady is a California citizen, I would expect that
your state's federally funded Vocational Rehabilitation service
organization might have something to offer her in the way of financial
assistance for college!
