Good evening,

I just finished reading the amended Standards from the CMS website as suggested by Eric Hammersmith. I can only say that Thank God!, I'm on the back end of a career that has lead to this. Anyone in O/P that does not send their comments to CMS will deserve what they get!

The amount of documentation required will very soon occupy more of your time than the actual patient contact. The O/P skill set is rapidly devolving from patient care to that of CYA! It won't matter how good or bad the service is; it will absolutely be imperative that the documentation is 100 % complete. The one item that I couldn't find in the standards was the one that established the increase in reimbursement for the extra professional time for the documentation, the extra clerical staff required to follow-up and file the extra documentation and the cost of expendables, i.e. paper, printer ink, folders, along with folders and file cabinets. Of course, if your office is all electronic, then your costs are actually less, ( that is, if you believe.)

Please read and comment to CMS, your ability to keep the doors open may well depend on it.

As an aside, is anyone else as p...ed as I am that CMS has deputized ABC and all of the other accreditation agencies to act as policing agencies? i.e. the requirement for unannounced accreditation visits? How the H... does a small facility owner ever leave the office if he hasn't received his accreditation visit? My understanding is that if missed, you have to reapply.

Someone, please tell me that I've got this all wrong.
