Dear Colleagues,

We currently are working with a 37 year old male who is diagnosed with
Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy. The patient has been working with his
physical therapist for the past several months to help with weakness and
pain in his bilateral arms and shoulders which he experiences daily
while working full-time as a foreman in the construction business. The
patient presents with the classic symptoms usually seen with this type
of dystrophy: bilateral arm and shoulder weakness, scapular protraction
and elevation, and severely impaired arm and shoulder ROM. After
researching the condition and possible orthoses that may help improve
this young mans life we came across a study titled Scapulothoracic
Fixation Orthosis for Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy (JPO 2000 Vol.12
Num.4 pp. 106-109) which in theory seems to be the perfect orthosis for
our patient.

We are looking for practitioners who have had clinical experience
treating these symptoms and who may have used the principles outlined in
this study. Failures in treating this condition may be just as helpful
as successes so please call or email me with any information you may
have.

Thank you,
