I have very recently been asked by the Academy to assist in the development of the technician program for the National AAOP meeting in Orlando which is slated for Saturday, March 1st from 7 AM to 3 PM. Technicians play a vital role in the O&P care continuum and, in my estimation, their continuing education is as important as that of the practitioner. It would be beneficial to the O&P community at large to have a professional support staff possessing state-of-the-art fabrication skills. It is because of these beliefs that I ask for everyones' help in developing an exemplary program of appealing and inspiring topics.
My thought was to have a very technician-focused agenda with 20 to 30-min presentations on topics such as: specific fabrication techniques, new materials and their adaptations to the P&O industry, business issues involving the central fabricator, documentation for the technician (orthometry forms, work orders, HIPPA) and maybe a breakout session for the new technician who might need to get up to speed on the basics such as anatomy and terminology, basic metal and plastic techniques, etc. Any topic that addresses the varied needs of the technician would be valued.
I understand that this is a busy time of the year but March 1st is coming up quickly so if you or anyone in your organization has the desire to share their unique knowledge to advance the education of the technician I would be very pleased to discuss your ideas. Please share this message with everyone as we all have something to offer. Thank you,
