First VolleyT, OPAF's adaptive tennis clinic has been named the USTA
Adaptive Tennis National Community Service Award Winner for 2008. Recipient
of the award must have been in existence for, or conducted a program, for a
minimum of three consecutive years, and be registered, or connected with a
registered, USTA Adaptive Tennis program. Further, the program or program
leader should have demonstrated continued excellence, dedication, and
service in tennis for Adaptive Tennis or those with disabilities.
We are so pleased with this recognition from USTA on a national level. It
continues to give credit to First Volley as a quality adaptive tennis
program aimed at amputees and those with physical challenges said OPAF
Executive Director, Robin Burton.
The award will be presented at the USTA Community Tennis Development
Workshop to be held in Las Vegas in February, 2008. USTA will be sending a
media crew to Pennsylvania to film a short documentary on First Volley which
will premier at the Las Vegas Awards Dinner.
First Volley Adaptive Tennis Clinics aim to introduce or re-introduce
ambulatory players to tennis skills and drills that they may have thought
lost to them. Founded in 2005, First Volley provides excellent tennis
instruction to amputees and those with physical challenges who wish to try
tennis but choose not to sit in a wheelchair to do so. In 2007, OPAF hosted
twelve First Volley clinics across North America and more clinics are being
scheduled now for 2008. OPAF's goal is to promote health and fitness for
those we serve.
If you would like information on hosting a First Volley Clinic for your
patients and your community, please contact the OPAF office at 215-752-5756
or <Email Address Redacted> It is a great way to give back to your industry and your
patients and serves as an excellent marketing tool.
