Requesting ideas for management. I have a 13yr old patient with what looks
like a LisFranc amputation. I'm not as familiar with prosthetics yet, so
correct me if I'm wrong. It appears as though his tarsal bones are still
there, but no metatarsal bones. He's had the amputation since 6yrs of age.
He was fit with an AFO/toe filler but never wore it due to stubbornness.
His Dr has finally convinced him that he needs some support if he wants to
avoid future problems. He has about 1/2 LLD He has good heel alignment
and dorsi/plantar range. He does have some callusing, however he says that
it does not bother him at this time. He would PREFER something low-profile,
however I believe he would be understand the benefits of a longer lever arm.
I've discussed various options with coworkers including a silicone foot,
AFO with toe filler, and more specifically an Arizona AFO with toe filler.
I was wondering if anyone might give their opinion to one of these options
OR provide another option. The patient is active in basketball, however
limited since he can't get toe-off from a stuffed shoe. Thanks!
