My orthotist made me a pair of bilateral restricted
articulated AFOs. In general, I love them compared to
orthotics made by another local company.
I did not go back to Hamilton, as this person agreed
to consult with people there.
I can walk in them and am learning to walk with quad
canes and climb stairs for the first time in five
years.
The hinges are covered with foam for the most part,
but must be exposed for parts of the gait cycle, as my
ankles are getting red and sore where foam has
compressed from wearing them for about 4 weeks.
Is there anything to cover the plastic of the hinges
that is exposed with?
Do I need more strap to hold my ankles still? A strap
crossing over my ankle and forming an X to hold it?
In general I love these braces. Best pair in 10 years.
I can walk in them or use them in my seating system,
and they were casted close to 90 degrees. They also
accommodate not only my CP but they let my have my
massive dystonic movements and then go back to a
regular gait pattern.
This is why I want shoes and socks to accommodate
them. Love them. Any ideas to cover the hinges?
Toe spacers will be made tomorrow, too.
Thank you,
Jennifer
